Anchorage is the newest public school option for full-time homeschooling in Anchorage. The District is a dependent tax supported entity, deriving most of its operating budget from the State of Alaska and from local property tax revenue provided through the Municipality of Anchorage. As a public entity, the District has an obligation to assess the results of its efforts and to publicly report the degree to which it meets the goal of providing a good education to every student. Alaska residents since 1976, he and his wife, Chris, moved to Anchorage with three young daughters in 1987 and to Eagle River in 1989. Daughters Monica and Dianna are graduates of Chugiak High School, where Megan will return as a senior after spending the 2003-2004 school year in Argentina on a Rotary International student exchange. A varsity gymnastics, soccer and volleyball, choir, band, orchestra and drama dad, Mr. Steiner has competed in state championship Poetry Slams, acted in community theater, and served as a long-time director and past-president of Eagle River Valley Community Council. Mr. Steiner holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from Ohio State University and earned his law degree from Yale Law School. Legal counsel to Ted Stevens Anchorage and Fairbanks International Airports, he is a member of the Legal Affairs Steering Group of Airports Council International-North America. A five-time delegate to the Alaska PTA Legislative Issues Conference, Mr. Steiner served on District and local school advisory committees before his 2002 election to the Board. He currently chairs the Board's Audit Committee, and serves on the Policy and School Site Selection committees. Mr. Steiner holds Seat D, and his current term expires in April 2005.
